"Minotaur and Sirens" is a surrealistic depiction of mythological figures. The painting shows the Minotaur - half man, half bull - carrying a naked woman, a strongly dramatic and symbolic representation. Sirens, known in Greek mythology as seductive and dangerous creatures, are also present in the painting, adding to its mystical and dark character.
This painting, like many of Picasso's other works from this period, is rich in symbolism: the minotaur is often used by Picasso as a symbol of inner conflicts, brutality and primal instincts. In this painting, the minotaur carrying a naked woman can symbolize violence, domination and the complex relationship between strength and weakness. The minotaur in Picasso's work is also a symbol of unbridled sexuality. Sirens, known in Greek mythology as seductive and dangerous creatures, are also present in the painting, adding to its mystical and dark character.
Many of his works show the Minotaur in situations filled with erotic tension, which may reflect the artist's personal life and his complicated relationships with women.
The Minotaur is often interpreted as the alter ego of Pablo Picasso.
During the 1930s, when Picasso was working intensively on the Minotaur motif, he was experiencing a lot of personal and political turmoil. The Spanish Civil War, his turbulent relationships with women, and the general socio-political climate of the period had a major impact on his work. The Minotaur became a powerful symbol for him to express these intense emotions and experiences.

The fixtures shown in the visuals are for illustrative purposes and do not constitute a commercial offer.
