In 1974, she began work on the series *Jonka, Jonek, and Kleks*, which was published in *Świat Młodych* until 1992. In 1980, the Youth Publishing Agency released the first comic book collection by Pawel, titled *The Adventures of Jonka, Jonek, and Kleks*—by 1988, six of the artist’s volumes had been published. The magazine also featured *Kubuś Piekielny* and *Bunt krasnoludków*. After *Świat Młodych* ceased publication, Pawel began working on the editorial staff of *Uśmiech Numeru*. The series of stories about Kleks was particularly popular, with a circulation exceeding four million pieces. Since 2002, the publisher of *Jonka, Jonka, and Kleks* has been Egmont Polska, while the adventures of *Kubuś Piekielny* were collected and published by Ongrys in 2009. The artist also drew two comic books published between 2007–2009, as well as the albums *The Code of Healthy Living* for the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Institute’s Oncology Center and the handbook *Shopping with MAX* for the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection. In 2011, on the occasion of the 22nd International Festival of Comics and Games in Łódź, the publication *In Tribute to Szarlota Pawel*, dedicated to the characters she created, was released. The artist also created illustrations for newspapers, books, and encyclopedias, published satirical drawings, and worked as a painter. Pawel was awarded the Bronze Medal “Gloria Artis for Merit to Culture” (2010) and the Janusz Christa “Golden Cup” (2019). On the occasion of the centennial of the Polish comic book, the artist was posthumously awarded the “Meritorious for Polish Comics” prize at the Warsaw Comic Con festival (2019).
