Of Italian descent, after her family moved to Poland, she began her education here. At first she was preoccupied with cinema - she starred in several productions, and also became associated with director Wiktor Biegański. In 1930 she took up studies at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, then moved to the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow.
