Lastovjak Education: Master’s degree in art history from the University of Warsaw.
A contemporary figurative artist who creates three-dimensional works using her own technique involving papier-mâché, canvas, and oil paint.
In each of her works, the artist explores the human condition; she is fascinated by other people and the issues associated with them, and her observation of diverse social circles has served as a catalyst for various paths of introspection.
The figures in her paintings assume poses characteristic of human beings, thereby highlighting specific social issues such as loneliness, limitation, pressure, or anonymity. The current themes of her work focus on issues related to perception and transformation, but above all on empathy and the depiction of various human emotional states. The serious subject matter contrasts with the harmonious form of the paintings. The canvases, covered mainly in white paint, are static; color is replaced by shadow, and they straddle the line between painting and sculpture, lending both disciplines a new dimension.

Gaja Lastovjak’s art defies all classifications and definitions; it is subtle yet critical. The artist has participated in numerous exhibitions, both solo and group, and has collaborated with galleries including: Galeria Next, Saatchiart, ArtMo, ArtinHouse, Singulart, Monshareart Gallery in Milan, Polskajungart in Vienna, and Art Show International Gallery in Los Angeles, as well as with auction houses such as Desa Unicum, DNA, SDA, and Fineart’s. Her paintings have been featured in international exhibitions in Austria, Portugal, and Italy, and many have been acquired by private collectors from Switzerland, the U.S., Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, and other countries.
In addition, she works with sculpture and paper installations, as well as performance art and happenings.
