Juliusz SŁABIAK (1917-1973)
Cracow painter. He studied painting under the tutelage of Wojciech Kossak, whose influence is strongly marked in the painter's works. He practiced oil and, less frequently, watercolor techniques. His work is dominated by landscapes, forest views, often enlivened by parts of staffage, as well as Krakow motifs. A large part of his oeuvre are genre scenes set in the scenery of villages near Krakow. Slabiak liked to paint peasant homesteads, wooden churches, horse-drawn carriages and Krakow weddings, as well as city florists.
