The poem was published in 1823 in the St. Petersburg almanac "Severnye Tsveti". The heroine of the poem was Anna Olenina (1807-1888) the poet's muse, daughter of the president of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts and spouse of the president of Warsaw (1842-1862) Teodor Andrault de Langeron.
