Petras Repšys (b. 1940) is one of Lithuania's most prominent graphic and monumental artists. His works are characterised by an emphasis on Lithuanian mythology, history and national consciousness. The artist combines the symbolism of folk art with modern means of expression, creating a recognisable ornamental, linear and richly detailed plastic language.
Repšys became famous as a master printmaker. His etchings, aquatints and drawings are characterised by subtle draughtsmanship and philosophical depth. His book prints are characterised by ornamentation, symbolism and reflection of Lithuanian cultural tradition.
