Blue, almost monochromatic composition entitled. "Theme with Variations VII" by Stanislaw Fijalkowski is a microcosm open to the viewer's interpretations. The minimalist, infinitely spatial form, was built using light. The homogeneous sheet of paint is organized by a frame, characteristic of the artist's work, marked by a thin black line running along the edges of the painting. This kind of bordering carries an association with an icon, the classical structure of which is usually based on two planes - the outer frame, intended for a decorative ornament or a sequence of small images, and the inner plane with a sacred image. The outer field serves as a kind of "window" to the spiritual world, a frame separating the earthly and heavenly realms. Similarly, in Fijałkowski's art, this border opens up another, metaphysical dimension, separating the painting as an object - a work of art.
"Art is (...) a kind of practicing of metaphysics, a special form of philosophizing. In today's world, which has lost religious sensitivity, this sensitivity to the spiritual world or "metaphysical feeling," as Witkacy used to say, art provides some of the experiences that religion used to provide. In another form, I practice what Jerzy Nowosielski - the only artist close to me - does, that is, the secular equivalent of theology." - explained his concept to the artist (Stanislaw Fijalkowski talks to the editors, "Project" No. 5'77 / 120). Limiting himself to only the simplest means of expression, Fijałkowski brings out the painterly essence from the canvas. His works are a mystery contained in a spiritualized object. Poetic and concise, they are inner experiences and a path of contemplation.
