Tadeusz Brzozowski was one of the more distinctive figures in the Krakow art community. Almost as recognizable as Tadeusz Kantor. He studied at Krakow's Academy of Fine Arts. His artistic education was interrupted by World War II, and during the occupation he attended the Kunstgewerbeschule. He finally graduated from the Krakow academy in 1946. Since 1954, he has lived in Zakopane.
The two works on offer date from 1940 and differ significantly from the mature work of Tadeusz Brzozowski, who in his later period, using abstract form, created free-form often non-figurative compositions bearing humorous sometimes grotesque titles such as the presented composition, made in ink "Illustrissimo Magistro." Since the beginning of the 1970s, the artist has emphasized the matter and intense, sometimes bearing features of drama, colors of the work. At this time Tadeusz Brzozowski's compositions also acquire an eschatological character.
