This is an oil portrait by Włodzimierz Terlikowski, depicting the figure of Xawery Dunikowski. The artist was famous for his tempestuous temperament, the signs of which are visible in the painting layer of his works. He painted his paintings quickly, shaping solids with spatula-applied paint, in which he almost "sculpted". Evidence of Terlikowski's acquaintance with Dunikowski, which began
during the Paris period, are the accounts of other artists residing in Paris during those years, such as Zofia Stryjeńska's memoirs.


Włodzimierz TERLIKOWSKI (1873-1951)
Painter associated with the École de Paris community. He studied in Munich and Paris. He traveled extensively in Europe, visiting England, Spain, France, Italy, and also visited other continents, traveling to India, North Africa, Australia and New Zealand. He made his debut in Paris in 1900 with a solo exhibition at the Bernheim-Jeune gallery. From 1911 he lived permanently in Paris, where he participated in numerous exhibitions. His paintings are characterized by vivid, saturated colors and rich painterly textures. The artist's works are currently in the collections of French museums and private collections.
