Rare jubilee badge issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Jan Długosz Gymnasium in Lwów, celebrated in 1927. The school originated from the Fourth Gymnasium of Lwów, established in 1877, and in 1909 it was named after the eminent Polish chronicler Jan Długosz. During the Second Polish Republic it ranked among the city's most prestigious classical secondary schools, and its students and graduates included such distinguished figures as Kornel Makuszyński, Jan Parandowski, and Juliusz Kleiner.
The jubilee celebrations included ceremonial academic sessions, reunions of former students, and the publication of the "Commemorative Book of the 50th Anniversary of the Jan Długosz Gymnasium in Lwów", documenting the school's history together with memoirs of its teachers and alumni. The anniversary highlighted the Gymnasium's importance as one of the foremost centres of classical education in pre-war Lwów.
Badge from the Collection of Lech Kokociński, Honorary President of the Polish Numismatic Society.
