FLORENCE Cosimo II (1609-1621) Plate 1618 - MIR 261/4 (indicated R/5 unique?) AG (g 32.20) RRRR The MIR assigns the highest degree of rarity to this vintage but in a note adds what Di Giulio reported in 1984: "the only specimen with this date appeared in the March-April 1963 bulletin of the Carlo Crippa numismatic firm. A close examination of the original plate raises the suspicion that the fourth digit of the date, somewhat irregular in shape, is the result of the rebating of a 3 on a pre-existing 1." In this specimen the date 8 is very sharp and well marked. Be that as it may, this coin remains of great rarity and extremely interesting in the Florentine plate series
