A 500 zloty coin with Pulaski's image and a similar one with Kosciuszko were minted in 1976 on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of American Independence.
Both Poles were heroes of the United States involved in the fight for US independence.
For political reasons, information about the real reason for their minting could not appear on the PRL coins minted in 1976.
Proof coins minted at 300 pieces for each type were almost exclusively sold in the United States.
