In 1564, the two principalities were incorporated into the Kingdom of Poland, joining them to the province of Cracow, creating the Silesian district. In 1772, the area of the Silesian district included 7 towns and with a population of 164,577 people. After the First Partition of Poland in 1772, the area fell to the Austrian monarchy, becoming part of the lands known as Galicia for short. After the Third Partition, the official name of these lands was the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, together with the Grand Duchy of Cracow and the Duchy of Oświęcim and Zator.
