Diodori Euchyontis, *De Polychymia*, four books.
(Zurich) 1567. No publisher. (15.5 x 10.5 cm), [8] leaves, 229 pages, [10], 2 woodcuts, ornamental initials, flat-bound.
A rare alchemical and medical work by Caspar Wolf (writing under the pseudonym Diodorus Euchyontis). The work drew on the pharmaceutical and chemical traditions of Conrad Gessner and was published after the Gessner publishing house had ceased operations (founded in the 16th century by the Gessner family; which published, among other things, scientific, medical, theological, and natural history works). Four books devoted to practical alchemy, chemical processes, distillation, and the use of preparations in medicine, illustrated with woodcuts depicting alchemical apparatus. The first and only edition, considered one of the most important artifacts of sixteenth-century chemical and medical literature. Scuffs on the binding; signs of woodworm damage on the binding and endpapers; occasional notes in the text and yellowing of the pages; handwritten notes on the last page. Secondary binding with a spine added in modern times. Good condition. 10555/19
