Biography
Graduate of the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk (now the Academy of Fine Arts), Faculty of Painting, Printmaking, and Sculpture (1981–1985). He earned his diploma in painting in the studio of Prof. Kazimierz Śramkiewicz. He also received an addendum to his diploma in artistic printmaking using the linocut technique. In 2006, he was awarded the title of professor. He served as dean of the Faculty of Graphic Arts during the terms 2008–2012 and 2012–2016.
Since 1985, he has participated in numerous group exhibitions and competitions in Poland and abroad, presenting his paintings and graphic works (380 exhibitions). He has also presented his work, in various forms, at 80 solo exhibitions. He is the recipient of prestigious national and international awards and honors (23), among which the following deserve special mention: the “WIKTOR” statuette award at the Arsenał National Exhibition of Young Art (1988), an honorable mention at the International Print Triennial (Kraków, 2006), and the statutory award at the 6th Polish Print Triennial (Katowice, 2006).
Janusz Akermann is the author of several dozen (90) reviews of the creative output, artistic activity, scholarly and teaching work, and organizational involvement in the proceedings for the conferral of the titles of professor, habilitated doctor, and doctor to artists and educators at art academies throughout the country.
